This study focuses on strengthening the Health and Demographic Surveillance System (HDSS) by integrating community perspectives into research planning and implementation. Through participatory engagement with local populations in Uttar Pradesh, the research aims to identify priority health challenges, improve data-driven decision making, and promote sustainable community-centered healthcare interventions. The project emphasizes collaboration between researchers, healthcare providers, and community members to ensure that surveillance activities address real-world public health needs.

Dynamics of Respiratory Pathogens and Health Conditions Among Kalpvasi Pilgrims During Maha Kumbh Mela

This research investigates the transmission patterns of respiratory pathogens and the associated physical and mental health conditions among Kalpvasi pilgrims attending the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Considering the massive population gathering and challenging environmental conditions, the study evaluates infection risks, health vulnerabilities, and psychosocial stressors. The findings are expected to support public health preparedness, strengthen disease surveillance systems, and guide preventive healthcare strategies during large religious congregations.

Care-Seeking Pathways Prior to Death: Verbal Autopsy Narrative Analysis from AIIMS Gorakhpur HDSS

This study analyzes verbal autopsy narratives collected under the AIIMS Gorakhpur Health and Demographic Surveillance System to understand healthcare utilization patterns before death. It explores delays in seeking care, barriers to accessing health services, and the role of socio-cultural factors influencing treatment decisions. The research aims to identify gaps in healthcare delivery and generate evidence to improve early diagnosis, referral systems, and overall health system responsiveness in the region.
